Public Trust Plaintiffs from https://www.ourchildrenstrust.org/us/federal-lawsuit

Does Government have a DUTY to protect common resources for the people? This question, applied to the livability of our environment, has been challenged in various courts for nearly a decade under the Public Trust Doctrine. What is the latest news? On June 8, 2016, a federal judge denied a Trump … [Read more...]

CO2: Earth’s thermostat is set higher

March 28, 2017 by Rudy Sovinee 1 Comment

Atmospheric CO2 keeps climbing, and the emissions are projected to continue climbing.

CO2's rate of increase in the atmosphere has ACCELERATED since posting back in 2014 about CO2 being the planet's thermostat. Translation, the Earth will warm faster and it will be warmer when it finally reaches a new state of balance between energy received from the sun, and energy radiated back out … [Read more...]

Climate Change & Food Security

February 19, 2017 by Rudy Sovinee 6 Comments

Photosynthesis and plant growth improves with temperature - up to a point. Above that ideal warmth, plant vitality rapidly drops off. Each crop has its own ideals, but even attempts at GMO have failed to much raise the temperature ranges tolerated by different crops.

Human civilization has grown and prospered during a 10,000 yr period of remarkably stable climatic patterns. Different cultures have adapted to specialize in certain foods largely because different places have had conditions that favor one crop or another. Small Shifts Have Consequences In our … [Read more...]

Skepticism – Causes and Consequences of Human Caused Climate Change

November 17, 2016 by Rudy Sovinee 3 Comments

Over half human added CO2 since 1988

Skepticism and outright denial of human causation of climate change remains high in the USA, much higher than in other countries. Why? What political and mass marketing of ideas against understanding climate change are hindering the USA? Is there a way to get past this skepticism and act … [Read more...]

TAR SANDS – the worst of possible fuels

December 3, 2014 by Rudy Sovinee 3 Comments

TarSandsTransition

April 16, 2018 update "EVERY bit of the fuel used in getting Tar Sands extracted and softened and pumped first required burning additional fuel pushing more CO2 into the atmosphere … before the net refined fuel from the Tar Sands is itself burned in a car or other device - which adds the rest of … [Read more...]

Our Planetary Energy Surplus this Millennium

90% of the accumulated heat is stored in the oceans, raising the humidity, powering stronger hurricanes and typhoons, making more torrential the rains that happen as well as warmth intensifying the dryness where rains are not occurring. We see it as "Extreme Weather."

Stability is Step #1, Can we remove CO2 before consequences lock in?

Atmospheric CO2
Earth has gained 80ppm in 50 years. EVERY increase means the insulation blanket of our atmosphere has increased. The energy of the sun will warm us more quickly, and the eventual equilibrium temperature will be higher.

Recent years have seen a leveling off of human emissions, but the growth in CO2 concentrations is accelerating. How? Why? Evidence points to planetary amplification of what humans have started. Humans need to reverse course before these amplifications gain momentum and take away any chance of maintaining an inhabitable planet.

Climate Change Updates:

Scientific evidence mounts that human society is pushing the planet into conditions not experienced since before we were anatomically "humans." Posts delving into the unfolding science explaining what is causing Earth to warm, Climate Change and the consequences of Human Conflict are added here as updates to the initial statements I offered directly related to the school program.
